Building on a successful career in office equipment sales and management for other Kern-based businesses, Bob Carney made the decision to step out on his own in December of 1977.   In a spare bedroom of his northeast Bakersfield home with little more than a strong reputation for providing superior customer service, Bob realized his entrepreneurial vision and Carney's Office Equipment was born.  With the support of his family  and loyal customers, sales grew steadily through the flegling company's first few months.

In July of 1978, Bob was joined by his son-in-law, Rick Kreiser, and their first "official" office/showroom was opened on Easton Drive.  Product lines, service personnel, and new customers helped the fledgling company grow.  Within two years, additional space was necessary and they didn't have to look far - right across the parking lot to the 4200 Easton Drive building.  Business and staff continued to grow and, with them, the requirement for even more showroom, office, and classroom space. 

Several remodels later found Carney's occupying almost half of the 22,000 SF location, but limitations on how the space could be used helped Bob and Rick make the decision to create their own environment and a move to the current Westwind Drive facility was completed in February, 1990.

Carney's, along with alliance partners InBalance Solutions and Customsoft, form the core of Kern Business Technology Center at 2001 Westwind Drive.  Complete demonstration, conference, service, and training operations serve our clients well as a "one-stop shop" for business-grade technology support. Our city has experienced explosive growth, and technology has changed every aspect of the way we live and do business, but one thing remains the same - Carney's everlasting commitment to provide the best products and services remains as strong as that winter day almost three decades ago.
